The Magic Of Pretending
Do you remember pretending when you were a kid?
There was no limit to your imagination. You didn't worry about what other people thought of you. You just took the magic of your mind & being, and played out whatever scenarios you could dream up.
As adults, we don't pretend like that anymore, or do we?
I know I do.
Sounds silly right - someone my age (early thirties) pretending…
If you think it's crazy to pretend as an adult, listen to this story - it may change your mind.
A few years ago before I had my son, I would pretend that I was pregnant. Any time that my stomach was feeling bloated, I would poke it out a little more and pretend it was a pregnant belly.
I would also have conversations with my hubby and tell him how our son (because my child was definitely going to be a boy), would act.
I said that he was going to be so active and he was going to run around saying, “Mom - I love you so much.”
Fast forward a few years, and now I have my son.
A “hyper, full of life, joy in his eyes, but can throw a tantrum like you have never seen, son.
I knew that my child was going to be a boy, I felt what his personality was going to be like, and I pretended he was here, before he was born.
Was I crazy?
Or
Was I tapping into an energy that already existed?
Was I sensitive enough to feel his spirit and open-hearted enough to play with his energy before he arrived? I believe so. You see, everything is energy, and I believe that I was tapping into his essence before he even got here.
I even did it with my dream car.
Everytime that I got into my Altima, I would envision that I was driving my Lexus GS. I would envision the Lexus symbol in the center of the steering wheel and the leather seats. I practiced the "feeling of it" before I received it. I used the magic of pretending.
A few months later, when I wasn’t even shopping for a car, the universe lined up an event that took me right to my dream car.
I wasn’t even searching for it, but it found me.
“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”
I got approved, set up my loan, and picked up the car the next day. It was just like magic. Like something was working to align me with what I had envisioned for myself.
Listen, people may laugh at you for pretending.
They may make fun of you for walking as if you have already received that dream job.
They may criticize you for believing in the unseen.
- They may criticize you for making a vision board, and for believing in, what they think, is an “outlandish” goal, but your dreams are shown to you - for a reason.
So, don't get discouraged.
Don’t hide your child-like wonder because it seems silly to other people.
What you desire is there waiting for you. It’s waiting for you to play, to pretend, to envision, and to open your heart to it. It’s waiting for you to believe that it’s possible.
I am here to tell you - it's there.
I’m not telling you that as someone who is just quoting what someone else has said or experienced. I am telling you that as someone who has experienced the magic - when I opened my heart to it.
I am telling you as someone who has been playful about my dreams, and then watched them show up in my reality.
It’s more real than you “think” it is.

Try it! You’ll be surprised.
Pretend for a week that you are where you want to be, invite the energy, walk as if, and see what happens. Open to it. It’s there.
